Monday, March 28, 2005 Have you seen the long queues forming at Jubilee, AMK Central? Yeah, yeah..the one which leads to a shop called "Rotiboy"? Well, the bread's nice, the price is affordable. It just attracts my attention to that how long is this shop going to last? One type of bread, one flavour to last the whole of the shop's lifetime as it tagline says, "one is never enough...buns to die for!" I thought it was just an introductory item but from the looks of it, it seems that every shop of it's kind will invade the whole of Singapore with its unique bread. Another revoluuuuution? Entrepeneurs nowadays should be smart enough. Set up something original, make loads of money, and once others start to follow, you bow out with your heads held high. I hope Rotiboy doesn't suffer the fate of most bubble tea franchises. Anyway, there are loads of bakeries that are fast building up their reputation. Breadtalk, Cake History just to name a few. C'mon Jiahong, wanna open up a shop selling your vegetable burger? We split the capital, cost and profits. Once we make a huge profit, you go Bintan and I go Batam. Deal? Friday, March 25, 2005 I witnessed a fight broke out in a void deck today and much to my surprise, I saw two hunky policemen standing behind a pillar, watching the situation going on. Has the Singapore Police Force finally succumb to corruption? Well, not yet, as these policemen were namely Aaron Aziz and Vincent Ng filming one of their episodes of "Heartlanders". I thought they were friendly enough to at least carve out a smile when I did so at them but I got a cold hard stare from the wushu expert instead. Aaron? Well, perhaps he's just too "engrossed" in how the filming was done (as if he's not seen enough of them). Oh well, drats I should say. Mediacorp artistes, jaw-dropping wages, this kind of attitude they portray. Maybe they need to protect their image in public. Looks like I'll just settle for a behind-the-scenes job should I go on to pursue my careeer in this industry. Their make-up was thicker than a drag queen, I must say. I almost appreciate the make-up artiste for making me hate these stuck-up guys. But as they say, never judge the book by it's cover. Perhaps I went to the book shop at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Talking about image, one of my buddies commented that I've become more vain. "Your hair, contact lens, deodorant, accesories,"he said. I was taken aback. No, not because I'm denying the fact. He also admitted that the mirror in his house had become his second wife after his beloved computer and that nowadays he always seem to care about his hair on his head more than his hair at other places. "Looks like we are all becoming more metrosexual after all," another friend on mine chipped in. Oh, another surprise. Seems like I'm not alone afterall. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 Singapore Polytechnic, Media and Communicatons. You get the idea right? I got posted there. Sure, it's the course that I wanted all along after failing to cut the mark at Mass Comm and Media Studies and Management at NP and SP respectively. Sure, I'm happy but certainly not overjoyed. Somehow, my happiness was toned down when I got to know about my friends' results. Some got into where they didn't want to be at all in the first place. Others were caught offguard that their first choice was as if not being considered at all. There's still time to appeal. If you're sincere and confident of what you want, I believe you'll get it. Think thoroughly before making your final decisons alright, people? After all those efforts, what lies ahead will be decided by your fate. Afterall, a try is still worth more than not trying and regretting all your life. No more lame people like Edwin and Jiahong, whom I'm closest to all my secondary school years. Sayonara to Kenneth and Zhi Huan who have been lighting up the darkest corners of my life all along. On a lighter note, at least we're still in Singapore and can meet up during our free time. Drats. I gotta start life all over again. I feel like I've just woke up from a nice dream and start my day afresh once more.Rejuvenated, that's the word. After 6 long years building my foundation, I took 4 fruitful years to shape my future and now 3 more years awaits me as I bid to keep my dreams alive. Thanks Mum for being there for me, thanks sis for being my punching bag during my torrid times. Pity you for being my sis. Thanks my friends and teachers who've been straightening the crooked path I'm walking on all this while. And before the list ends, thanks Jehan for supporting me when I'm down and out. You people will always remain in my heart. "Just when you thought the journey has just reached it's finishing line, another path appears to lead you to the summit of mountain. Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no river wide enough, ain't no dreams that can't be realised." Thursday, March 17, 2005 Well, personally I feel we shouldn't have a casino back here in Singapore. Why? Cause I've just witnessed that Singaporeans are willing to spend and will not hesitate to pay more to get what they want. And my observation is only on these two small boys, roughly in primary 4? Yeah, they spent almost $40 on an arcade game. Every time each one loses all his "lives", he will tap the card onto the reader and poof! $1 gone. I wonder if they really gave a thought on how money comes to them. $40 isn't much some may say. But considering the fact that they're so young, I've no doubts on how spendthrift Singaporeans are. While arcade plays a big part in most teenagers life, what do the middle-aged spend on? Shopping. Walk down the streets of Orchard, enter Takashimaya or Heeren and take a peep at Bugis. Trust me, window-shopping is only second to shopping among Singaporeans. Alright, you don't always stare at those big screens in a rather competitive and noisy surroundings nor do you splash out cash on items that you barely need. Nevertheless, I'm sure food plays a huge part in all of us. Yes, we do eat everyday. If not, how are we gonna survive and get the energy to do our work? Oorh...look how pampered we are. Admit it people. You don't really eat three meals a day. You add snacks, brunch, supper, etc to those three substantial meals. Bedok Corner, Singapore Satay Club, Newton Circus, Lau Pa Sat. Oh, not to mention those numerous fast-food joints, lavish restaurants and posh dining places. That doesn't give you enough income, "Mr" Government? After all those income taxes, you still need something else to boost the economy further? A casino isn't the way out. Think hard, think creatively. Sunday, March 13, 2005 Gosh..I shouldn't have gone to the IT Fair on its last day. I really regretted my decision. I don't know how bad the traffic was on the previous days but today's was simply put as CRAZY! The one on the third floor was understandable but one floor above it was far worse than the situation when people in Melaboh and Aceh tried to run for their lives during the tsunami, I suppose. Luckily the ceiling was high, for I'll be gasping for air if it's otherwise. My main reason for being there was to check out the prices for the mp3s. Hell no way I'm gonna buy anything from there. You don't even no where is the queue! With all the pushing and tugging going on, it's a good thing that no scuffles broke out. I did buy a mouse though, as in the one for the computer. There's no queue for it- no hassle, no worries. Pick, buy, go. Then I went into the battlefield again, heading for the "EXIT" sign. At some point of time, I barely manage to walk. The traffic was a standstill, but the shouts and screams were still on a high. Looking at the prices of the Zen Micro and iPOD, I feel that I can get a better price somewhere else that I know. Yeah, a waste of time perhaps but at least I didn't go home empty-handed. By far, that's the worse event I've ever went. And you notice the bridge that links the Suntec City Mall and the Citylink Mall? Well, it was so packed that I fear if the bridge would actually shake or nah..imposssible. Anyway, these people are so dumb to keep on loading onto the escalator when they are human capacity on the bridge is already the maximum. So dumb until it takes the escalator to stop and people have to climb up the stairs before the traffic starts to even out. One guy shouted with a desperate tone before I can hear the loud wailing of a child. I hope both are fine. Only God knows how it really feels to be crushed like sardines in the tin. Saturday, March 12, 2005 Seen the "Disney On Ice-Princess Classics" trailer that's been buggin your TV sets lately? Well, from my experience, it's anything but magical. In short, it's a bore. Some may beg to differ but I think it's more suitable for kids aged 12 and below. Perhaps it's the fact that I'm seating at the $25 seats that I didn't enjoy the show that much. Nevertheless, the good point is that the "princesses" are beautiful, pretty and...it's nice to see them performing. I thought I was losing out when I've forgotten to bring my binoculars to the event but it seems like I didn't miss much as I pretty much saw the cast in the eating areas. It's such a pity that most of us didn't realise that fact when there are some who paid hundreds to get a better view of the show. Looks like the rate of myopia in Sinagpore is alarming still. You may be thinking that why did I waste my money on this in the first place right? Well, I was practically just accompanying my family and it's my mum who paid for it. So, gotta show some respect. Heh. At least I did make a point not to sleep half way through the event. (So sorry guys that I can't make it to the Yishun Stadium to catch the S-league match) Back in Bedok, where we had dinner, something suddenly caught my eye. There was an exchange of stuffs for money between an old man and a...not-so-well-dressed guy. I thought it was drugs. Maybe cannabis or ketamine. Viagra perhaps? I don't wanna know anyway. Just taken by surprise that it happened right in front of my eyes. Wonder what the Singapore Police Force is doing. Low crime really doesn't mean no crime after all. Thursday, March 10, 2005 I'm in the midst of my sickness now just as I was about to hit my form. These things always happens. Worse still, it makes my morale plunge deep down. I was hit by the flu bug, which I hope is not the bird flu, in the last two days or so. It was so damn bored being bedridden at home, nursing my ailing body. Over at the polyclinic, when I told the doctor that I didn't know if I had a cold or flu, he answered sternly, "What do you think?" Oh well, some people really make me piss off. Furthermore, my computer has been hit by a virus I think. A deadly one, I guess. Not to a great extent has my computer been damaged, I suppose. I just want a new PC! I swear I'll beef up my PC security from then on! Spending money my old com is like adding diamonds to a scrap of heap, trying to make it pleasing to the eyes. My point is: it's useless! The sensitivity of my mouse is like trying to make an elephant realise that it has been pricked by a needle-S-L-O-W. My CPU memory is like my brain, perhaps. It can only store the mnimum and nothing else. And the speed? Well, it's slower than you can pronounce supercalifragalisticexpialidocious. Finished pronouncing? My home page has not loaded up, mind you. You get my idea. That's why I can't solve the prob of my tag board recently. I'm looking foward to the holidays, really. That means no more ironing of my sis's uniforms and scrubbing her shoes every weekend. At least I have a week of rest. If not, I'll have to wake up early in the morning just to send her to her school which is about two blocks away ONLY. Added to that, she has three pairs of shoes which she wears at least TWO PER WEEK. Life goes on. It's tough. No question about that.Kids nowadays.Sigh. Monday, March 07, 2005 Alas, I've finally registered for the JAE. Even so, I need the help of Kenneth or rather his super computer to help me do so. Now my stumbling block is the payment. Guess I've got to go down to the Customer Service Centre to make my payment-my family doesn't own any credit cards. We are not financially stable enough to own one i suppose. Here are my finalised decisons: 1.Media and Communication (SP) 2.Business Information Technology (SP) 3.Business Information Technology (NP) 4.Business Information Technology (TP) 5.Biotechnology (SP) 6.Biotechnology (NP) 7.Serangoon JC (Arts) 8.Nanyang JC (Arts) 9.YIshun JC (Arts) 10.Information Communication Technology (SP) Well, I'm quite disappointed that I can't apply Mass Comm over at TP and Media Studies & Management in NYP. So, I'm pinning my hopes on my first choice. Even so, I'm applying Media Studies & Management through the SAE, which is a far more longer and complicated process than the usual clicking of the mouse in the JAE. If I get it, I have the right to reject my JAE and I will have another dilemma. Nanyang is near to my place, which makes it more convenient for me but most of my friends are choosing SP. Maybe it's time for me to grow up and by making my decisions based on peers, I'm just being immature, really. But first things first, I got to have both my SAE and JAE being in my favour. It'll be a long and meaningful month for me this year. Oh ya, hope Kenneth is recovering well from his food poisoning. I miss his physical presence. He has really been a great help to me by helping me in my blog stuffs and more importantly, the JAE issue. Thanks a lot, Ken! I'll treat you cheng teng the next time round.Adios! Thursday, March 03, 2005 Damn the MOE..their main intention of making transactions online is jus ridiculous. Their objective of cutting down manpower is nothing but irrelevant. Now, we have to make all the way to Buona Vista to make payment of a mere $7 if we don't have a credit card or any access on internet banking. Crap you say? Wait till you hear Singapore's "high" unemployment rate and how the Government is trying all ways and means to decrease the percentage. But wait, didn't one of it's statutory boards' just made way for online services currently? Moreover, it's regarding an important issue-the Joint Admission Exercise. Yeah, that's right. It's regarding the future of the the highest number of babies ever recorded between 1980-present. What a time to introduce all this crap. When the career fairs are held at a large scale, the Government is implementing routes to cut down manpower. When it comes to deciding one's future, they decided to try out a new method, for the first time ever. I believe they won't continue this shit next year. The whole idea sucks, really. The system's lagging, the MOE are apologising for the inconvenience and the last day for entry is tomorrow. Don't tell me all the people in the Government didn't forsee this. Even a tech noob will be able to tell how big 80,000 is on a single webpage. You tell me how do you dodge 80,000 bullets being fired at you on a constant basis. You call for reinforcements, right? Oh well, there's just one thing I wanna highlight here. We're really being made guinea pigs. Who can blame the Government right? Even the opposition party couldn't garner enough votes island-wide to topple the PAP monopoly over. What more can 2004 GCE 'O' Levels students do to rock their ship? The clock is ticking...but just a gentle reminder by MOE, 2. We are currently experiencing high usage traffic. Please be patient as the system response may be slow. You may wish to avoid peak periods between 11am ~ 1pm and 4pm~6pm. Tuesday, March 01, 2005 -=---A tribute to my fellow peeps in 4E, class of 2004 ---=- Well, it's the end of the road for us at least in terms of secondary school education. All the laughter that we shared and the banter that we got will go down 'Memory Lane'. Eunice 'The Lamer Queen', Jiahong 'The Lamer King', Edwin being 'Mr Cute Guy' and not forgetting Kenneth labelled as 'Mah Ser'. We all know jokes are meant to be laughed at. But there were times when mugging was common for us. Even so, we all know 4E guys are not that serious in our work! Well, the gatherings at the toilets after PE lessons, during recess and after school will no longer be present afterall. That's the birthplace of lame jokes and ideas. What a landmark it is. Zhi Huan will always be a guy whom I really salute. He's at the butt of jokes yet he took them reasonably well, laughing them off always. Now that's what I call sportsmanship. Aaron and his crappy mouth, really, what a crappy mouth he really has. Vincent was a techie, a pro-gamer. What can I say? He's lucky to be loaded. Perhaps it was unlucky of his parents to have a son so interested in tech stuffs! Andrew, dear Andrew.. a real silent killer. He can shut your mouth with a simple sentence from his mouth. Come to think of it, he's one of the more charismatic guys in 4E. What a character... Who can take Joanne Ling off our minds? If Mr Shan's 'The Terminator', then she'll be his machine gun. Don't you think so? Together with Kang Ling, Hui Ling and Cat, these ladies are perfectly matched for each other. I really envy girls sometimes. They have what we guys don't. The strong rapport i mean. The more studious ones are even more visible I suppose. Boon Piang, Min Ling, Alicia, Norma, Christine, Meena, Marilynn, Chi Ching..oh gosh, if they aren't 'The Incredibles', perhaps they'll be 'The Unbeatables'. Trina was THE 'Hot Babe' of the class (c'mon peeps, admit it!) and there were other characters which I don't wish to elaborate any further. If your name ain't mentioned, it doesn't mean you're an outcast, alright? Well, 4E will retain it's identity though it's faces may change every year. Good luck guys in your future. Keep in contact 'cause it's difficult to find friends like you. Adios amigos. Judgement Day was today and what an occasion it has been. There was I sitting down in the hot and stuffy hall, together with the rest of my classmates, awaiting our future which is literally in our form teacher's hands. Mr Shan doesn't look too happy though. It's as if he's forcing a heavy smile on his face. I was nervous, yes and uncertain about my future. The longest queue in my life was this one, whereby I got to see my friends break down into tears of joy while I await my turn. Little did I expect that the tiny piece of paper that I got have the power to change my life completely... |
