If you see a beggar on the pavement stretching her hand out, hoping for kind souls to drop some money into her hands, you would certainly feel sorry for her, won't you?

I don't.

What more she took the extra effort to play an instrument, and better still a tune that's soothing to your ears? Now you would, for sure, be moved by her sincere acts.

Not me.

She's at the same spot almost every other day, making you have this impression that begging IS her job, if not her career. You would at least, for once, drop a penny or two into her humble tin can, wouldn't you?

Count me out there.

But what if you can actually assume that the beggar's actually in perfect condition, at least to what your eyes can see?
That she's not disabled in one way or another? So much so that you think that she's begging just because she's too lazy to work?

I know. I can read your mind. You're saying that I'm just being naive, that I'm immature.

What if the lady has health problems that aren't visible to the eye? What if she has family problems, that I OBVIOUSLY don't know of? What if this, what if that... the possibilities are just endless here.

But WHAT IF I tell you that I see, with my very own eyes, this lady using a handphone while she's 'on duty'?

WHAT IF I dare admit that it's not just a 3310-like handphone, that's 'way-after-its-expiry-date-by-now'?

WHAT IF I say, I actually witnessed this beggar using this...

... a NOKIA N90?

I saw this beggar, if she indeed IS one herself, at Jurong East. If you happen to see any beggar, similar to what I've described her as, perhaps you've met the right person.

Only then will you believe that in Singapore, even the less fortunate are on the right track of technology.
